Parental Tips of the Month for Children’s Safety

Many parents consider baby walkers as a tool that can encourage their children to walk, provide them entertainment and safety. Unfortunately, none of the former is true; baby walkers may delay the baby’s walking and create significant injury risk. Since walkers provide quick mobility (up to 4 feet per second) to young children before they are developmentally ready, it makes children depend solely on walkers to walk and leads to accessing hot objects, risk of injuries, or concussions due to falling out of the walker.

Therefore, parents should seek safer alternative activities for young children to promote walking, and give them the needed strength when they are developmentally ready to do that. One of these activities is the Tummy Time (placing children on their belly on the floor, to allow them to learn gradually how to push themselves up, then crawl, and eventually walk).
